Welcome to the geographical centre of Queensland and a town with more history than a small stay can uncover.

Traditional land owners

Muttaburra State School respects and acknowledges it is resides on the traditional lands of the Mootaburra people.  Mootaburra is an aboriginal word meaning ‘the meeting of waters’.

Geography

The meeting of the Landborough and Thomson Rivers as well as Cornish Creek are situated on the edge of the community.  In 2002, it was announced that the geographic centre of Queensland is located very close to this community.

Muttaburrasaurus

Muttaburrasaurus langdoni is the name best fossil skeleton of a kind of dinosaur found nowhere else in the world.  It was discovered three kilometres from Muttaburra in 1963 by local grazier Doug Langdon.

The huge creature lived 100 million years ago, and this replica based on the skeleton found is now returned to Muttaburra and the land where it once roamed.​
